4.7 stars and no website: Arizona's invisible five-star businesses

Here's a strange thing hiding in our Arizona business database: the state's home-service businesses are, by their customers' account, excellent. Across the 5,369 businesses with online ratings in our 19,654 verified records, the average rating is 4.72 stars, backed by 266,623 customer reviews.

And yet a huge slice of those well-reviewed businesses can barely be found online.

Great at the work, invisible on the web

These 1,545 businesses have already done the hard part. They've won the reviews, kept the customers happy, built the reputation. What they haven't done is give Google (or a customer at 9pm with a burst pipe) anywhere to send that trust. No site, or a directory page, or a social profile that hasn't been updated since the truck got new decals.

When ratings cluster this tightly (a 4.72 average means almost everyone with reviews looks great on paper), the star count stops being the differentiator. The tie-breakers are the things a real website controls: showing up in the search results at all, loading fast on a phone, and making the call button impossible to miss.

"Having a website" is a low bar, and most sites don't clear the next one

As we covered in our first look at this data, only 34% of Arizona home-service businesses have a real website, and about 1 in 7 of the listed websites is effectively dead. But even a live website can quietly lose jobs. When we grade a site in depth, we score it 0–100 on the checks Google itself uses:

  • Mobile speed / Core Web Vitals: Google's PageSpeed measurements of how fast the page actually renders on a phone, the signal that decides rankings.
  • SEO basics: the titles, descriptions, and headings that win the click.
  • Findability: robots.txt, sitemap, and whether Google is allowed to index the site at all.
  • Security: HTTPS, so browsers don't warn customers away.
  • Structured data: the markup behind stars and rich results in search.

The early returns are telling: the first ~100 local business sites we've graded in depth average 74 out of 100. That's a C: passing, not winning. (It's a small sample so far; we'll publish fuller grade data as coverage grows.)

If you're one of the 1,545

You are, frankly, the easiest win in local marketing: the reputation already exists, it just isn't connected to a website that can catch the searches. A fast site with your reviews front and center converts trust you've already earned. And if you do have a website, the 20-second check below tells you whether it's helping or hurting.

Methodology: aggregate statistics computed from 19,654 verified Arizona business records in the Lighthouse Pro business database, updated August 2026. Ratings and review counts are aggregated from public online listings; "no real website" means no working custom website of the business's own (directory-only, social-only, dead, or none). In-depth quality scores come from our website grader and are reported with sample size. Aggregates only; no individual business data is published.
